FI Error
This is a little windy. Mods are Area P full exhaust, BMC air filter, flies out and PCIII w/PAIR valve blocked off. Blew out valve cover gasket. Took it to dealer and fixed gasket. Immediatley took it on the freeway and at about 90mph red light on left and FI Error flashing on dash. Push both buttons and it reads Code 59. Book says Variable Valve Timing. Took it to dealer and they keep bike over a week. Replace Cam Position Sensor. Take bike back out on freeway and it does it again at about 90mph. This happens in 5 or 6th gear and will happen earlier when going up a hill in 6th and later going down a hill in 6th. Disconnected PCIII and took it for a ride. It still does it. PCIII as problem eliminated. Does anyone have any suggestions. Bike has 19700 miles and is an '08.

It's still under warranty, so let the dealer worry about it. I had an FI error that the dealer had trouble isolating. Ultimately replaced ECU and wiring harness because of a faulty connector.

Yes, under waranty, but didnt buy the bike so the dealer could keep it in the shop a week at a time troubleshooting it and then not get it fixed. And they arent able to troubleshoot it at 90mph when the code is on. Just thought someone might have experienced the same thing and I could steer the dealer in the right direction. Not reinvent the wheel.

This doesn't address your primary problem, but "w/PAIR valve blocked off" and blown valve cover gasket concern me. Is that blocked line the one that stops the popping/backfire on deceleration?? If so, was that the cause of the gasket failure?

Yes, PAIR valve stops pop on decel. Gasket ended up being a torn gasket. Not sure if it was defect or installer. Either way, not leaking anymore. Not real confident with the shop though. They forgot to reinstall the gasket on the cam chain tensioner after the valve adjustment. They found that when they were replacing the cam position sensor.
Another update to the FI Error. It has been raining here off and on for the last couple days and the air has cooled up at night and morning. It takes about 5-7 miles on the freeway for the FI Error to flash in the cooler weather. So that would also indicate heat or oil viscocity related. Just an assumption.

No new info, shop is still "talking" with Kawi trying to figure out the prob. I'm riding the bike still tho, not as responsive.

Update, dealership replaced VVT Solenoid and ECM. Checked entire wiring harness and found nothing wrong. Told me it was fixed. I took bike and got on freeway and FI Error came on at 90mph again.
Now Corporate is sending out there regional tech to fix the problem as this is the 3rd time the bike is back for the same prob. If not fixed, I will be expecting a new bike. I guess time will tell.

Why doesn't your dealer take it for a test ride after repairing it? Even if he has to ride it at 90mph he should at least check his "fix" is working before giving the bike back to you. Bad luck M8 on your troubles. Hope you get it sorted soon.

OK, finally fixed. Sort of. They found an obstruction in a brass "U" shaped tube that is on top of the head under the valve cover. They were cleaning them, 4 of them, out with compressed air and said something "popped" out. They didnt see what it was. Put it back together and it fixed the prob. Then about 2 weeks later, The FI error comes on at startup. Not every time. Then goes out, but at no particular speed. Code is "65". Shop says it is the sister code to the other one. Waiting again for a fix.
