Thanks All (Flies Out, PC-V, Two Bothers, BMC)

I don't post here often, but I do read quite a bit. I have read many of the experiences you guys have shared and made my mods based on your posts.

I first installed a Two Brother"s Carbon slip-on. My understanding is that I got rid of three catalytic converters with that mod. I know I shed a substantial amount of weight, about 25 lbs.

I then ordered a PC V from FuelMoto. They had the best price I could find and they obviously support the product very well considering they sent it with maps pre-loaded. Since I was going to this expense, I read a lot on here about the flies out topic and decided to have Jamie at FuelMoto load the Flies Out map for me. I also ordered the BMC air filter from him at the same time.

I read the topics about the JIS screwdrivers vs. stripped screws during the fly removal. I am in Maintenance Management for a Japanese Automobile Manufacturer and as such, I knew of the difference in screwdrivers and I also knew the Japanese brand I had the best experience with. The brand is VESSEL and can be purchased in the USA from JDV Products http://www.vesseltools.com/shopping/...hp?cPath=21_25. I ordered the MEGADORA 900/Kit and the MEGADORA 900 P2-400 which is the one I used for the fly removal. I also ordered a cheaper set the 100/Kit set which has wooden handles and a tang-through design in case I had the need to tap the handle end with a hammer for a JIS screw.

Using the Vessel model 900 P2-400 I was able to remove the screws on the flies without the need for heat, hammering, etc.. I just simply turned the screwdriver and the screws came out easily without sliping any at all. I also did not remove the fairings for this. I only removed the storage compartment on the fuel tank, then the four bolts holding the fuel tank down. I then had another person hold the mostly empty tank up while I did the the removal. Very simple. Since after doing this mod you will have to install a PC (III or V) you might as well go ahead and remove the left fairing because you will ned to do so to access the plugs for the PC eventually anyway.

Well, I said all this to get to the original point of my message, which is THANK YOU for all the information you all have shared. I just got back from gassing up and taking the bike on a little test run. I don't know any real numbers, but my seat of the pants meter tells me the difference is real. I don't know exactly how to describe it. The bike is still smooth and very controllable, but when I ask for more it just hits harder. The bike has always felt like the response was very immediate to me, only now the immediate response is more abrupt. One example may be that third gear acceleration feels as hard as second gear used to. The revs come on quicker and it just flat launches harder. I did not notice any snatchiness at slower speeds such as parking lots or in city traffic. I only noticed the difference WHEN I ASKED FOR IT.

Again, thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, and if anyone is on the fence about this mod DON'T BE. I'm sure if you have questions you can find the answers here. I am available to answer any questions about the limited mods I have done.

A small point, but you don't get rid of any cats by replacing the stock muffler. The 1400GTR cats are in the header.

And in my first post I'd like to reinforce GT-Rons thanks.

I've just acquired a 2007 build GTR14 rather than a new 2009 because the price was so 'right' for an unregistered model I found nearby after test riding an 09 and being smitten. I buy bikes and keep and use them for a long time and my road bike history is CB500/4, Z1B, GPZ1100B2, ZX9RB1 and now the GTR1400. Kwak seems to run in my genes.

Not many kms yet but the recalls for the pannier locks, rack and brake pedal are now done, and some initial disappointment as the throttle response isn't the same as the 09 I test rode. No official changes, but my contacts have now told me that there have been some running changes to the mapping. No easy upgrade and a PC or similar is the only answer.

So, a Ventura rack is bolted on in place of the plastic thing, a Staintune is now fitted, a K&N goes in this weekend, and the PC is on the way, and when fitted it'll be on the dyno asap and the butterflies will be gone.

The Ohlins is coming too, and the 2nd hand seat i just got on ebay will get some more work to raise it a bit and take some more stress off my stuffed, dirt bike, knees.

Once its all set up, I'll see what needs to be done with the forks, and then it'll be lots of kms.

Thanks again to all who have done the hard yards to make these decisions easy for me, can't wait to get it fully sorted now.

Cheers
Steve
