Spark Plug Change

Hi all.I'm planning a few trips over the next couple of months so decided to do some self servicing on the bike.
Its coming up to 7000kms on the bike...about 4500 miles me thinks.

Anyway the service manual states engine oil,oil filter and final drive oil to be changed at 7500kms/12000miles...which seems normal enough.
But it also states that spark plugs also need to be changed.

Does this seem a bit over kill.Did anyone "push" it a bit further before changing them, or would it be recommended to do them at 7500kms/12000 miles

Cheers

Sore point at the moment. Can't understand why Kawasaki want to change plugs at 7500miles and then every 7-9000miles afetr that???. Iridium plugs should last 25000miles+ at least. It seems to be the general opinion, especially in the UK that you don't change your plugs and advise your dealer not to change them until the big service at 24ooomiles.
They will add 2 hours to your service costs. Some owners have had theirs done at 25000miles and found nothing wrong with them at all.

I changed mine at about 12,000 miles. That was right after a trip, to Ca.then to Nags Head,NC, and back to Ky. Yes from Coast to Coast.
The Plugs looked great, but replaced them, while I had all the Fairings, off for a Total repaint. I didn't care for the Neutron Silver. The plugs where $13.00 each, and took about 45 mins to replace, after the above mentioned, replaced with Iridium and was told there good for around 25,000 miles .
Hope this sheds some light for you,
Wayne.

4500 seems to be overkill for me. I'd wait for 7500 at least. I did my 636's at 8000mi. and they still looked new. I changed them anyway...I mean, I was already there.

I think the biggest issue with plug changes on the GTR is the pain in getting to them.
Quite hard to extract them. You need to remove a lot of bits to gain access.
