hi all new to the site,currently own an fjr and thinking of a gtr but have herd some horrendous reports of 30ish to the gallon/110 miles to a tank,can anybody advise on there mpg,can get 250/tank/25ltrs out of fjr.advice appreciated.

Touring I get about 50mpg at a steady 70-80ish if I open the bike up a bit 100+ it drops to about 40-45mpg winding it up in the lower gears on tight roads will drop the mpg down to the low 30s

The worst I've ever gotten was riding 105 mph for 200 miles directly into a 30 mph head wind. Got about 31-32.

Under normal circumstances 70-75 mph and light winds I would get 38 to 41.

However I recently installed an economy fuel map to my PC3. Now at a constant 70 mph on road trips I get 46 to 48 mpg.

Mine is 8000 miles and returning 40/42mpg cruiseing below 100mph around local it gets better 44/48mpg, but what fun. buy it and enjoy you wont b disapointed. ron.

Just done a 1000 mile trip around Scotland - ranging from 5 MPH tracks to steady 80 MPH sweepers - got 49.9MPG with panniers and topbox, me six foot 5 and 15 stone plus. I reckon thats good.

Mine is the same Ave. 42-45mpg under combined 'normal' riding.
Bellys, don't get confused with the fuel consumption figures given by guys from the USA as US MPG figures will appear less to us in the UK. 38USmpg equates to about 45UKmpg.. If you need to get a comparison between MPG figures given by guys in the US and UK figures multiply the US mpg figure by 1.201.

Very consistent 38.9 us~mpg or 46.7 uk~mpg. That is mostly 75+ mph highway miles.

My personal best is .8 us~mpg or .9 uk~mpg and 51.1 or 61.4 uk~mpg. It was MUCH more fun getting the .8 mpg than the 51 mpg!

Why is that a concern? Are there not a lot of petrol stations in your part of the country? To me fuel is like water; you need it, you buy it.

I don't care what the MPG is - if I did care I would buy a moped!

I used to have a classic Mercedes 500SL and the first question people asked was "What does it do to the Gallon?" My reply was always "FCUK Knows! - you don't buy a car with a 5 Litre engine and then worry what MPG you are getting"

Anyway, the computer says I average 36mpg but the way I ride it I am not surprised!

I'm averaging about 44-48mpg on most tanks,
seen 51mpg one tank, and 38 on my first tank

I rarely get fuel before 200 miles
(low fues normally comes on around 210-225 for me)

Mine's similer to Hitmans normal around 42 45, touring sub 100mph around 47, going for it low 30s similer to most big bikes I would think in touring mode this will give you an easy 200 miles or around 3 hours enough for most I think. Dont forget you still have around 4lts when the fuel warning comes on around 30 or so easy miles

I also rarely fill up much before 200 miles. The computer, which I have never reset other than the trip B meter, shows the average since I picked up the bike as 43.7 mpg. I have doen just short of 3000 miles always two up. I'm 6'3'' and 17 stone, my mrs is 12 stone and we have had it near the top end a couple of times but mostly 80 - 90.

This past March I made a 1,500 mile, 3-day trip from Florida to Tennessee to ride the "Dragon" (318 curves in 11 miles, but this area is full of other great rides) On the interstates I rode 80-90m.p.h. and in the mountains reasonably fast. Let's say m.p.g. was not a consideration. My average for the entire trip was 38.9m.p.g. (U.S.) - using Hitman's 1.201 conversion that is 46.7m.p.g (Imp. Gal). When I am really on the gas constantly I get about 36 U.S. or 43.2 Imp.

On another subject, I replaced the stock seat with a Corbin. They have heated or unheated versions. If any of you go to Daytona week, Corbin has a store a few miles north in Ormond Beach. They will put it on for you to see if you like it and then mail you your stock one for free. I find it a dramatic improvement, but be aware that Corbin makes a firm seat. If you want a soft one try a Russell.

I also put a laminarlip on the windscreen (see www.laminarlip.com) which pushes the wind up about another two inches). Also use a Kwikover (a zip-out cover) - also purchased from laminarlip - that keeps the elements off on trips (like avoiding an ice covered seat on a cold mountain morning).

So far I can say that I am very pleased with my purchase (and add-ons).

I would post a photo, but I have not yet figured out how to do so (just started using this site). I also have a Triumph Daytona 1200SE and the Triumph site has a photo download function under "Additional Options" but it is not there for Kawasaki. Is this because I'm a "free" member, or am I missing something? The "insert image" icon does not seem to be for downloading a photo, but instead asks for a URL address. If anyone wants to give me a little instruction here it would be appreciated.

P.S. I forgot to add that my gas is a 10% ethanol blend and this hurts m.p.g. because it has less B.T.U. content than 100% gas. This is common in the states, and depends on what state you are in.

I average about 44Mpg(UK) but I make Big Kev look like a waif (6'4" 25 Stone) and I have a very heavy throttle hand.

Last summer after running her in, still using the stock screen and with panniers and topbox fitted I did an extended run at high speed.
Over 1 hr @ between 120 & 155Mph (speedo) whilst playing with a ZX12R on the A3 Autobahn.
At one point I switched to Current Mpg and was surprised that at a constant 140 she was still getting 35Mpg(UK).
Averaged 38Mpg(UK) over the tankful (180 miles).

The ZX12R pilot pulled in at the same time as me and we stood there filling the bikes with great big stupid grins on our faces.
I think he enjoyed playing with me more than playing with the SL55AMG he'd been teasing when they first came past me.
We left the AMG for dead and never saw him again.
