got some time on my hands so where to go?
as the title says, i have a few weeks of spare time and seeing as i am single with the best bike in the world i thought i would head off somewhere, no limits just as long as i get to see some good sites and some good clear roads.
so come on, let me have your ideas, thinking of heading to dover then a ferry or a train to whereever and then ride till i can ride no more.
oh and what shall i take with me, just incase of stuff going wrong, going to order the rear box tomorrow so will have that and a rack sack to keep me stocked up.
quite looking forward to it and a little nervous but thats part of the fun.

Head down to Cornwall, one of MCN's top ten bike roads is from my town (St Ives) to Lands End, a good test for the GTR......
Tuesday is our local bike night ..
so you could travel down down on Monday.. ride the Cornish Dragon Tuesday.. bike night at the local Mc D's and then sample some Local ales before heading home..
I must add a warning though... St Ives is full of people that "just came for the weekend"
Stu.. ;-)

Hello Shocks; yes to Kent; Yes with time on my hands.... however unless I take a GTR on extended test, I can't join you (yet). When able, I'll look you up. Meanwhile take a look at my sig below and the Kent based group. Enjoy the GTR!

I covered most of the high passes in Switzerland, France, and the Italian Alps on a bicycle once, I can't think of a better trip to do on a motorcycle. On some of the curves you can read your own licence plate.
TWD: I followed your advise, edited and remover the green underline of the word motorcy...

Shocks M8, you don't say when you want to travel so i am presuming that you are itching to go now. That limits you a bit with regards to the weather and road conditions so I would suggets that you get down to Plymouth and catch the Plymouth - Santander ferry to ride around Northern Spain. If you leave early you can even do the Cornish Dragon and meet up with Bagman.
Get some great proven routes from this link for N. Spain http://www.bestbikingroads.com/show_....php?code=7504
And if the weather is too cold there, cos it's 12-18 at the moment, head off down to Andalucia for some great riding were the temps at this time of the year are in the low - mid 20's. There are too many to advise so try here for inspiration. I've always found some great routes from this website.

Wherever you decide..Ride Safe and ENJOY...you lucky *******

If I were you ( two weeks to ride right now), I would head for the ferry and go to Provence. Avignon,Nimes, have some of the really nice Roman ruins and great roads. Weather should be nice this time of year for riding.
If you chose to go there. I would suggest a nice little Hotel in a place called Crillon-Le-Brave. It is slightly north and east of Avignon at the foot of Mount Ventuex. ( you can find the village and hotel on google) The hotel is a prefect place to stage for a trip around Provence...
The Hotel at Crillon-Le-Brave is a few buildings on a bump of a hill. The view is of Mount Venteux. They have a few room carved into the hill with a well stocked Wine cellar!!!! Very friendly ( for France).
I lived in Luxembourg for four years and this was one of my favorite trips that we took in Europe!!

sorry didnt put enough detail in last night, right i should be free to go after this weekend well hoping to leave on the 8th, but thats a saturday and i was unsure as to what would be open on the sunday if i am stuck out in the middel of nowhere, going to head to dover and to france, i have riden to spain acouple of times before but never alone, so its a first time long trip alone.
i have a couple of weeks to kill and do not have a real date to be back but i was thinking of doing the coast route for a while then head in land to see some sites, never been to paris but will do that on the way back, also rome i have done but by bike, i have sat nav so cant get to lost, i enjoy riding and i am really looking forward to this just with so much going on in my head and why i am doing this the helpful advice you give is of great help.
all the best.

Hey Shocks,
My advice is to ditch the sat nav till time to come home.
If I were you and had two weeks to travel AND was sitting at the Ferry port in Calais with my GTR1400 under my butt, I would take the first road the looked "interesting" and continue looking for interesting roads from then on.
I had more fun getting lost in Europe than anywhere else. Of course you have to work real hard sometimes to stay lost but you get the idea.
Just my < $0.02 USD worth of advice.
