AArgh Freak sand storm!!

God damit my beautiful green ninja is all fu%$#@ up!
I was riding home on the highway on my ZX10R and all of a sudden there was this freak sand storm and it was like there was gravel on the road. It literally sand blasted my bikes paint job to shit. My headlights are all chipped and not clear anymore. I am so mad i could just yell and scream.

Now i have a winter project i can do to the bike i guess. Now i need to see what it is going to cost to get the plastics repainted. Or just finish the bike in carbon fiber.......No i like my green color to much.

I'm sorry to hear your bike got scratched and chipped from an unforeseeable sand storm. Try and look on the bright side -- you came back home in one piece, and the bike still works. It is better that the bike get scratched and dinged through normal wear and tear, or even a freak sand storm, than for it to remain in pristine condition inside a garage. My parents always said "tear it in good health", because they learned through life's experiences that the alternative could mean that the person is not healthy enough to truly enjoy it. [That lesson came from a new pair of shoes my sister couldn't wear because of a broken leg.]

Air filter. Air filter!! Get that sand shite out of the airbox too.

Sorry to hear about your sandblast. Nothing you could do, short of stopping and extending the torture. I feel for you bro.

Do you have pictures of the damage? I wonder if any of it can be buffed out or if this is a good excuse for an insurance claim. (?)

No pics just yet but it could be a claim on insurance.......But i have a friend who owns a body repair shop and i am going to see how much to get a re-paint for! I ride the crap out of this bike but i take very good care of it. I keep it washed and waxed and bug free. I cover it at work so it doesn't see the sun's heat. I had it immaculate and just freshly detailed and a new wind screen on it. I know there was nothing i could do but it is disappointing none the less. There are a few chips from the previous owner on the fuel tank so a new paint job may be in order just because. I was wearing shorts and boots and a riding jacket helmet and gloves. I should not have been wearing short i know it, But my knees are all sand blasted also. By the time i had made it 18 miles back home my knees were on fire and bleeding pretty good!

Well i priced out some new plastics for the front and i came up with $386. I might just go this route and get new plastics. I figure i only need the upper side fairings and the center nose piece. I don't know about the mid fairings i didn't look well enough. But there are some good chips there already but they are on the inner side where you cant really see them. Now on the headlights i am going to restore them myself with a repair kit. I have used this kit before on cars and trucks but not on bikes. But i can't imagine it doesn't work because it is supposed to work on all clear headlights. I was reading the manual on how take the upper fairings off and it looks like a pain in the ass. Not hard just detailed and lots of little bolts\screws.

those are a regular occurance down here in the summer. Rode though 2 last year where I could not see the car 20 ft in front of me. Took me weeks to get the dirt out of my nose and ears.
