Need all your guys opinion on BIG DECISION...
oK people I got quite a quandry to decide on, hoping your guys views and suggestions help me make the right choice. Im currently in the process of enrolling in at MMI in Phoenix, AZ to take the motorcycle tech core program with the K tech specialist program. I already applied for pell grants and discussed it with the financial aid person which they said with the pell grant and low interest loans it would just about be all paid for. The loans wouldnt have to be paid till 6months after i finish the school. And they help me with job placement after. I'm all gung-ho about this and all. Finally i would be able to do my own work and know what im doing on my own bike, right? Here's another factor i should mention, that im unemployed recently getting off workman comp after 2 and half years from rupturing my 8cm disk in my back at work. Of course a registration fee of $150 i would have to get, thats ok. Then she says that I should have money to start when i first arrive for apartment, utilities, etc..etc. Because they would get me part time work while i attend but in case it takes a month or 2 to get a job. So she says I will need $1500.00, I said whoa. Im staying at a friends house with him and his wife right now till i get better situated, so dinero is scarce. Im thinking and I kinda dont wanna do this but it would give me the opportunity to do something with my life. Is to sell my bike for $1500.00 the housing there would be within 4 miles of campus. Im hoping of i do sell it i would be able to get a job at a dealership like my friend did with his harley and get new bike while working for the dealership. But that is a long time away the course would at least take 4 months to finish. Yes this is my 1st bike too, heres a picture of it:

I paid $2300.00 for it but do i got to sacrifice for the longterm?

You can always get another bike. Do what you need to do to secure your future.

Even though it's hard for me to say it, selling your bike might be the smart choice. If $1500 is all that is standing between you and a career then you should do it. Short term, yeah, it's gonna suck to not have a ride but in the long term, it's the smart thing to do.

I agree with both previous responses. Your bike is a beauty, but this is for the future. Your future is far to important. Look at it this way, you get a good job after school, and you'll be able to afford a much newer bike while being able to afford other nice things. Your bike is really nice if you were not so far away. I would buy, I love the 7's! Good luck, and definetly go to MMI!

I started mmi in orlando on Nov 2. I walked away from a 40k a year job, picked up and left. Now i planned ahead and enrolled almost a year early so that i would have time to decide what electives i was going to take and to figure out the job thing and all. I decided to take the k-tech and suzuki just so i had something other than kawi under my belt but has since dropped suzuki just because lol. Unless you have already completed other schooling at mmi there is no way you will be out in four months. I started on the second of this month and my grad date is Oct 8th 2010. Thats just with taking the K-tech program. As for a job.....hold on. I came down here with a great resume and am still looking for even part time work. Yes they can help you and make you a resume, but even with going out everyday after class and almost literally begging for a job....it still has not happened. I came down with 6k in the bank to fall back on and falling back on it is what i am doing lol I AM NOT trying to tell you not to go! This school is the best thing I have ever done and it is worth everything you will walk away from and the hard times that you have ahead of you if you decide to go. The things i have learned in the two weeks i have been there have been amazing..... o and i walked away from an automotive backround so i already kinda knew alot about the industry and still have learned so much! As far as your bike is concerned.... if all else fails, sell it. It might hurt now and your going to think after being there what have i done, but stick with it follow your dream and get it done. Your going to hear a million times that you get out of it what you put in, and its more than true. The more of yourself you put into your future the more your going to be where you want to be (and on the bike you really want to be on ) If you ever want to talk about anything pm me and ill get you my number. It is a hard decicion, from someone who is there and has done what your doing, take a good long couple of nights and really think about hwat you want, what ever that is, do it, and you will not regret it!

Invest in your future. It will pay off more than you can probably imagine right now. Just be prepared to do whatever it takes and stick it out until you are done. Things might get a little hard from time to time but just keep your eye on your future and keep building it.

I'm also going to MMI Orlando right now. Talk with your financial aid advisor about "additional living expenses" loans. I got extra money to pay my rent/utilitys for the year+ that im here. This way i don't have to stress about the money. Yeah, i will have more to pay back once i graduate, but going to school fulltime is hard enough, couln't imagine if i had to work full time too to pay the bills.
I've been here since May, and it took until august for me to finally get a part-time job. I went to the employment services office at school on a daily basis, still took forever. I would start applying for jobs now lol.

Wow you guys are a plethora of knowledge and experience! I was thinking about if they had loans that helped pay for those expenses but wasnt sure if it existed. So as for now I do have 1 person pending a response of the purchase of my bike. But, my friend that took the Harley Davidson course had a relative that lived in Phoenix and all he did was move his trailer camper to her house and sponged off her without the cost of housing. But he did remind me without transportation to and fro and the heat to deal with becomes more of a burden. So tomorow I too will speak with the financial aid person about the loans for cost of living.
