Don't like deer

No, not an attack against venison. It's those animals on the hoof looking for a place to die that bother me.

Was on the dawn patrol (morning commute), coming down the hill, approaching the only decent legal passing zone on the whole commute with about 8 cagers in front of me, twisted the wrist, was past most of them, when I see this buck standing on the left side, nose sticking out into the lane (coulda reached out and touched his nose). Can't really call it a close call, cuz he wasn't trying to cross and didn't run out; actually seemed to be smart enough to just wait out the traffic. Scary thing is: I didn't see him until about 10 feet away. Man! Bottom line, I thought the deer would already be sacked out cuz it's a full moon; thought dusk and dawn were only bad deer time when the moon is dark; guess he didn't get the memo.

Bonus comment: it reminds me of my favorite Jay Leno "headline:" old lady, letter to the editor: someone has to take down these "deer crossing" signs, deer are getting killed there all the time. (btw, if you need this explained to you, you're on the wrong forum, go to yahoo and search for "gsxr forum" to find your special place on the net).

I've lived in rural Oregon most of my life (now in the big city) and have only hit one deer. I was in a car and taking my then wife to the emergency room (don't remember why). Anyway I come around a corner and see a big ol' buck standing in my lane (two lane road) and I slow down as much as I can without throwing the lady into the dash and I went to go around the ass end of the buck in the left lane. There was no one coming so I thought I was going to get lucky and even let go of the brake . At that point I was only going about 10MPH and the damn buck spun all the way around and jumped in front of me, took out the grill and one headlight on the POS little dodge I was driving, rolled up on the hood then rolled off into the ditch. I had to continue on to the hospital, but when I came back an hour or so later the damn buck had gotten up and run off.

I see them around here all the time, VERY scary on a bike, I've hit one in my wife's truck...tried avoiding it, ended up hitting it at like 5-10mph and the damn thing still did some damage...couldn't imagine on a bike

I'm one of the only people I know around here who has never hit a deer. They're like freakin' rabbits around here. I know people who have had deer run into them. I mean, they're driving down the highway when, wham!, a stupid deer runs into the side of their car. I'd rather hit a deer than a moose or an elk.

Or a bear. That would suck.

I have seen dash videos on bikes when they collide with deer and the damage ranges from major cosmetic to... you got fucked up. One in particular actually cut the deer in half and destroyed the front fairing on the bike... the one which was REALLY bad sent the rider over his hands about 120ft in front of the bike. All you can say is be cautious when in the woods or back country roads... that and carry a rifle on your back.

I was following a log truck one time and I saw a deer come from the side of the road and actually outrun the truck just to get in front of him and get run over.

now that's funny (especially today).

i have hit one on a cage, dodge intrepid vs. doe, dodge 1, doe 0, very minor damage; my brother hit one with an rx7 in nv; totaled his car. was in jordan (the country) a couple years ago, riding in a car with spouse and local driver; he told us the bad thing there is to hit a camel; really long legs, body goes right through the windshield; reckon that would be bad news on a bike, too, but not so likely to surprise you like deer do.

Nice job of tossing a GSXR bash in there.

that's okay; you should be able to explain it to them if you're patient

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyxqTYlW1FM if all cars were designed like this we would only have to worry about deer on bikes.

i came within inches of hitting a doe last summer, i was cruising around after work on my old honda, and i got distracted by something i had passed, all the sudden i got the really bad feeling something was about to happen, i snap my head forward and a doe was about a foot in front of my bike in a dead run across the road. timing was right and i wasnt going very fast and i missed her completely, ive never been that scared in my life but that taught me how quick shit can go wrong when riding
