red light
what do you do at red light if no other cars is around you to tip off the sensor? last night i learned it take my 6r, a 600rr, a ninja 500 and about 400 pounds of human to tip off the sensor to make it turn green. does your state have any kind of law to let motorcyclist trest red light like a stop sign?

I believe it’s illegal in NC. But you can get a tripping kit for motorcycles on eBay. Not expensive.

We talked about this not too long ago. Almost all lights in the US are tripped by time or magnetism. And ALL states have a law for malfunctioning lights...malfunctioning lights should be treated as a STOP sign. That being said, most (if not all) states also follow a simple guideline for motorcycles that is along the lines of a malfunctioning light. Basically, if the light cycles 3 times without giving you the green or doesn't change at all after 5 minutes, you look both ways and proceed with caution.

That's given the local LEO's know that rule. Otherwise, you just wasted all the time you saved leaving the light by getting pulled over.

Shifty is correct. I don't wait for it to cycle 3 times. I can't believe you would get a ticket if you explained why you went thru the red light unless you actually ran the light.
The only problem I see, what if the intersection has the photo cameras? I've seen people get their picture taken if they move too much or go too far forward before making a complete stop while making the right on red. If you were going straight and even waited the 3 cycles, you would still get your picture taken.

I try not to tempt the law or ruffle their feathers in any way. Almost without provocation, they won't hesistate to ram me with their patrol car, then proceed to "Rodney King" my ass. If I did something like run a red light, even if I was waiting for 30 min., they would shoot on sight. All thanks to people like kawi4life doing wheelies.

We don't have to deal with the cameras here but I would bet that you could explain that one in court.
But personally, I don't wait 3 cycles or 5 minutes. I know which lights suck for bikes and if there are any cars around, I treat them like a stop sign. We've got some pretty bad lights around Cincy so, on a good day of riding, I might run 4 or 5.

Ga is still trying to pass the law for what you can do at a red light if it doesn't change. As of right now though until it gets passed you either have to just sit there and wait or turn right and turn around. It sucks the big one

A friend of mine always puts his kickstand down at red lights. Supposedly it helps trip the magnetic sensor. Personally, I just ride through it. If theres no traffic around I don't bother sitting at red lights, I just go. If there is traffic then usually I take the shoulder or the turn lane and go to the front of the line. Then when it goes green I'm at the front of the pack. Generally I don't mix in with the cagers and I don't let them hold me back.

I just make the right, and then another right. Beats the hassle of possibly getting pulled over, and then having to go to court.

You know what they say, "two rights don't make a left".
I live in the inner city. There's always cars, all hours. And I'm never out at 3am so I don't really have to worry about being alone at a light very often. It's happened at the end of my street a few times but I just made a right and turned around in a parking lot. I thought about getting off the bike and pushing the button to make the light change but with my luck, a cop would drive by while I was running away from the bike.

I actually have done that one. A couple of times. Weird thing was, there was about 4 cars behind me and we waited for a good 5 minutes and nothing. Finally I just ran over and hit the thing and it damn near changed before I got back to the 6R.
Anyways, I either:
a) wait till it changes
b) wait long enough till Im fed up and go carefully through, making sure NOONE is around (including people with flashing lights)
c) a car pulls up.
Ive never done the turn right, turn right, but thats because if I did, there was no way to get back to the direction I wanted to go. Street layout kind sucks. Forces me to run it or go WAY out of my way.

I've had it happen a few times and finally just make sure it's clear (civilians and the man) and go through, so far without being stopped; no guess from me if you could beat it in court, but I know I would fight it to the bitter end including threatening lawsuits against the city. I do suggest a foot over the license plate as you go through to protect against the red-light cam could protect against it coming to that.
