Not necessarily. BMW has something to prove with the 1000RR, and they've got to do it in a big way. Aprilia is under no such obligation.

Still doesn't prove there isn't a bigger margin in an Aprilia. Markups get bigger and bigger percentage wise on things that are supposed to be "higher class". I obviously have no idea what it costs to push an Aprilia off the line and into the dealership, but I would guess that it would probably be pretty close to in-line with some of its competitors...that extra $$$ on the price tag is because of the "Aprilia" badge.

Of course that is purely speculative.

I do know I worked at a Ford plant building F-150's and it was sickening to know what the plant had in each truck. Of course I know there is marketing, transportation, taxes, etc, etc. so on and so forth to be added on before you can determine your margin, but it was dirt cheap.

That's just it. There is a bigger margin with Aprilia. That's the reward they get for being established, with a proven record of quality and performance. BMW has none of this, and they need to be competitive in every way to get their foot in the supersport market. Price will be one of the most important factors to pulling that off.

If i ever get to the point where i can honestly say that i need more than what a kawasaki or a used gixxer 600 can give me on the track. Than i would consider a exotic and its hefty price tag, but right now my 4k bike is giving me all that i can handle and then some. I know a few guys that have 1098 and what a waste of a bike. They cant as well as i even come close to riding that bike to is max capabilities. If i where single and wanted to draw a crowd at the local bike night then maybe. No disrespect to you or aprillia im sure its a venomous monster out on the track with the right rider, but i would have to go with the other italian in the group. They are just sex on wheels (1098).JMO

The price is not solely on the name. Your also paying for large number of track orientated bells and whistles. I.E. brembo brakes supension upgrades ect. However most people buy these bikes for road use not knowing what they are getting and they are horrible because thats not what there intended for. I have only riden a ducati once in wisconsin and hated it on the street. The dry clutch was a pain in the ass, and the bike was really bad at lower speeds. however the bling factor was of the charts.

Not to mention, every Duc I've heard sounds like the exhaust is about to fall off.
