When did you know you were a sportbiker?
So this is one of those just becuase threads...
*sorry i didn't search anything so there could be a similar thread*
So 1999 i'm in 7th grade (12.5yrs old because at that age you still measured by half years!!!), at a middle school track-meet. (we're talking running and jumping) these were the days before gasoline was my concern.
Anyway we warming up near the parking-lot and parked there a brand new ZX-7 (i was gonna link the pic, but @work can't upload) white/green/purple. From then on i wanted a Kawi with the big dual intakes....
Fast-forward 7 years 2006 college went to get a bike! no credit... mom and dad say no way... so i buy a car instead. build credit, and finish school.
July 2008 i purchased a brand new 250R - far cry from the ZX-7R lol but i was looking to live! 2 months go by i'm riding with a couple friends (1 on a Gixxer 600 and 1 on a SV650) I can't keep up goin anywhere. sold the 250 for 100 bucks more than i paid for it! and bought a left over 07 ZX-6R i looked for a close by 7R but i wanted one that wasn't tarnished! March 2009 i bought a 2005 ZX-6R 636. Rebuilt it (fun fun fun) can't sell it.
Reguardless of my dreams in 1999, i now own a bike that prolly rivals the '99 ZX7 "now" and its kawi Green! I'll be a Kawasaki owner the rest of my life!
What was your first dream bike and what did you end up settling for?

At the age of 6 maybe 7 my family and I went to my grandfathers house. While we were there my uncles pulls up on a brand new Kawi ZX9R in kawasaki green. Ever since that day I have been into anything regarding a motor. When I turned 17 I asked my parents if I could buy a bike and they said NO. A year later almost I am about to turn 18 and I ask again and they say well you are a legal adult so if you want to buy one thats fine but you will have to move out. Keep in mind I love anything with a motor so instead of the bike I buy a car right after I turn 18 about half a year later I start talking about buying a bike again and tell my parents I am going to take the MSF course and if I take it will they let me stay at the house when I buy the bike. They finally agree to it agreeing that they think I am mature enough to handle that responsibility. After some deliberation my parents decide to take a chance and they pay for my MSF course as well as take the course with me. My parents bought bikes first both of them cruisers but I held out because I wanted a kawasaki, so while I waited for a deal on a kawi I rode around my moms honda rebel 250 and my dads suzuki boulevard c50 Then a family friend had to sell his kawi 636 and I snatched it up as quick as I could. Haven't looked back since.

never really had a dream bike. Anyone remember the movie 'Small Soldiers'?
Just googled it, it was released in 1998....so I was 12. Anyway, theres a scene where this gorgeous girl left with a guy on a bike....knew then i wanted a bike...haha. BTW, that gorgeous girl is kirsten dunst...haha. I cant remember for sure, but I even think it was a ninja.
My dreams kind of died out as my parents would never let me buy a bike. That is until I got to college. Bought a 500r, now the proud owner of an 09 zx6.

It all started when I was about 5 -6 and used to ride on the back of my grandfathers bmw bike. When I got a dirt bike at the age of 8 everytime I would go for rides with my grandfather I would always think his bike was to slow and quite. When a friend of my dads rode his zx-10r over to my house when I was 10 I loved the speed and sound of a kawasaki.
When I was 16 I wanted to get a sportsbike but my mom said hell no. My dad said for my first bike that he wanted me to get a endaural motorcycle since I had been riding dirt bikes my whole life and that way if I ever got run off the rode I could just take the endaural of onto the shoulder. Since we live out in the country there's no sidewalks and stuff. Well when I was 14 I bought a 68 Mustang for $1200 and restored it to show car quality so all my cash went into that car. When I was 17 I got a excellent deal on a transam so I got that instead of the bike. When I was 19 and living with my dad since my parents got a divorced I went out and bought a 08 SE ZX-6R and ever since I got it I've loved it. It was going to be nice because I could save on gas going to work which is a hour drive one way but it seems like the money I save in gas goes into performance parts and acc for it.

Many years ago when I owned a harley XLCR cafe racer and a Motto Guzzi 850 lemans and a Triton, loved the riding position and the way the bikes handled, nothing compared to todays bikes but back 9in the day they where pretty cool.

back in mid 80's when I used to play sega's "hang-on", on the sega master system II, lol, and would cause a scene if I didn't play the arcade version at the grocery store, it was the baddest arcade game (to me) at the time it was a bike that you tilted from side to side to turn and it had a throttle, other than that I was afraid of motorcycles until 05 when I said fuck it and bought the shadow on a whim, and then rode my friends zx7/9r and I was like fuck the shadow I need to go fast...quick, it was like playing hang on but fo' realz lol

Yeah, I can't really pin point it. I've always loved motorcycles...ever since I can remember. I always used to pretend my bicycle was a motorcycle, so I think I was just born with it.

A "standard", is NOT, a "Sportbike"
When I got eaten alive by a Honda 600RR, while riding my Bandit 1250S.
I thought I could easily outrun "this lil' 600" . I mean, Im riding a 1250cc SUZUKI, for cryin' out loud. Should be "light work" for the BIG 1250, right? Shhhhhheeee-it! Boy was I wrong. He destroyed my ass, when the traffic cleared out of our way. THAT, IS WHEN I KNEW, I WAS A SPORTBIKER
I went to the local moto dealer a few months down the road, sat on a '09 Candy Lime Green ZX-14, and bought that 14 on my birthday. She just felt right, when I mounted Her(hey. . . .watch it now ). 11 months later, I still have NO regrets with my 14
A few months after I brought home the 14, I sold my first bike, the '07 Suzuki Bandit 1250S, to purchase a '08 GSX-R1000. THAT WAS CONFIRMATION. . . .IMMA SPORTBIKE BOY, FOR LIFE
But truth be told, I kinna miss my Black Bandit. I had her all tricked out, looking nice
But I do NOT regret getting a Gixxer . . . . a 1000cc Sportbike, makes a good "city scooter"

Last year, when I rode my buddie's 1980 KZ1000 around a parking lot. I felt like I was 6' in the air and the bars felt like ape hangers. All I wanted to do was get back on my lil 6. When I bought my bike, I sat on everything on the floor, cruisers, sports, dual sports, standards, sport-tourers, even a scooter. It came down to the R6 or the the ZX6R. The ZX just felt natural, almost like when you find the perfect pair of gloves or girlfriend. So, besides always thinking they looked awesome, turned out they were the bike I was most comfy on. And after riding my friend's KZ, I knew I didn't need to look anywhere else. Noone will ever do me like my lil 6. (and That's what she said) Beatcha all to it

Got the itch to ride last year a month after my brother sold his 2006 Yamaha R6. I started looking for my bike. I saw the 2008 ZX6R and fell in love with it. Never looked back since.
My dream bike is a KTM RC8 or an MV Agusta. But I love all sportbikes.

When did I start liking Kawasaki bikes? My story is pretty simple and stupid:
In the summer of 1986 I saw the film “Top Gun” where Tom Cruise went around the base in a Kawasaki… what was it? A GPX750?
I was hooked! And since then all my 250cc+ bikes have been Kawasaki.
Another film that influenced me a little too much was “Predator” from the same year I believe. Between both movies, they made me join the Army back in November 1989.

damn theres a lot of good stories here, but mines simple.
my brother had a bike and he would go out riding on the weekends with his friends like 3 yrs ago and since then i was all like, oh hell nah! im getting a bike too, just to get out of the house in the mornings and not do any chores! then in 07 i bought my 03 zx6r and then later that year i sold it for 300bux more than what i payed for it and the next week i went out and bought my 05 636 and havent looked back. idk but kawi's are the most comfortable bikes ive been on, compared to the major 4 brands (kawi, suzi, honda, yamaha). but thats just me...

Same here with Top Gun, except I didn't see it the summer of '86. Top Gun to me was like what Finding Nemo is to kids now a-days. I seriously watched Top Gun at least 3 or 4 times a week. Also, I may be wrong, but I think I just read in Sport Rider the other day that it was a ZX-9R. If it wasn't Sport Rider, then it was something else. Then again I could be completely wrong.
