Seems like most people agree, as do I. that's why it annoys me when people bash on gsxrs because of what the riders are doing with them. From the outside, I think people mostly groups Ninjas and GSXRs together as they stereotypical squid. Which we know is really the minority, but i hate to see ninja rider will cast that same stereotype on another type of bike. I'm sure there are many gsxr riders who just love their bike and enjoy riding responsibly like most of us.

That said, it's not like i have a boner for gsxrs, go ahead and criticize the bike where it deserves it (Sounds like JBear could go all day)

I couldn't actually. I only have a couple of criticisms, and if I wanted to I could find as many faults with any bike.
But I don't want to.

It's very unlike me too. I've always been disdainful of haters, who seem to hate a certain make or model just for the sake of hating something, or because it's not what they drive, or what they're father and grandfather drove, or because it's not "American". I've been building and driving Mustangs for over half my life, and I never let myself get sucked into the petty Chevy vs. Ford bullshit, or the picking on "ricers", or hating on Mopar's, or any of it. I love performance, and love anything that's put together well to corner hard and go fast, regardless of the badge on the hood or continent it was born on, and I have always despised people who did. It would irritate me when the guy in the other bay at the garage was changing his third dead alternator in his old Camaro while I was dialing in my coilovers on my 'stang and he'd give me the old "I'd rather push my Chevy than drive your Ford" line, but I'd chuckle at the irony of it knowing my daily driver GT would kick his ass at the drag stip, pull well over 1G on the skidpad, run circles around him on the road course and at 275K on the original 5.0 didn't know what a tow truck looked like. I was smarter than him, faster than him, and still had the grace to compliment him on his ride which would probably be pretty sweet if he knew jack shit about anything.

And now I find myself doing the same thing here in the bike world and for the life of me I can't see how it happened: but I HATE Gixxers. Not because of the squid association, not because they're butt ugly, not because they're fragile and crash like a bag of potato chips, not because the GSXR600 is the number one choice for chick sport bikers everywhere. I don't know why, it's completely illogical and entirely contrary to the way I have behaved my whole life, but I do. Hopefully the poison of my new found hypocrisy doesn't spread to other areas of my life as I age...

I hear ya JBear, I'm the same way with "Fast and the Furious" wannabes. While I was a fellow 5.0 builder for a while, I also used to like the ricers with loud paint jobs and more money under the hood than what the car was worth. Because someone put in the wrenchtime and they were performers. But nowadays, with all of the 16 year old kids driving totally stock Civics with the biggest, most god-awful ugly, loud fart pipes hanging two inches off the ground...ugh, I just can't even stand the sight (and sound) of them anymore. And while I rip on Zuks here and there, I'd still ride one. Hell, I used to own a couple of Suzuki dirtbikes and loved them. It's just too fun and too easy to rip on what has become the popular squid-mobile. But it's all in fun.

Anyway, so SoldMySoul, have you gotten your new Mohawk for your helmet yet? Because they make your helmet look that much cooler when it's strapped to the passenger seat as you wheelie down the highway.

Well I don't know if it'll help one way or the other, but you're STILL one of my favorites, in spite of your indiscretions of loyalty.

And in my own defense, I'm not pounding a drum I haven't been pounding since before you met me. I've been ragging on Gixxers all along. You knew how I felt about them before you did it, I begged you not to; but everyone knows it really doesn't matter how I felt. (I am curious who you're going to get to work on it though, since Sean was on my side)

And that said, I understand why you did. I'm happy for you that you're riding again, glad we were able to (help?) convince you not to throw away street riding completely for a track only race bike, glad you have something FAR superior to what you had- and I will not hesitate to concede that you do. You went from a heavy old sport tourer to a true supersport, it's a fantastic machine on a whole other level for you.
Just don't be surprised when you're ready to upgrade again and I'm not remotely interested in taking this one off your hands.

I agree with the ricer part. I used to be a part of the crowd that wanted to do the "Fast and The Furious" thing, but I stopped, and thought about the amont of time, effort, and money that goes into a completed machine and realized that the only thing that I would end up with is one of those stock cars with a huge fart can on it becuase I lacked funding, time, and didn't want to put the effort into it. Everytime I hear and/or see one of those hideous things and watch the driver think that he has the baddest Civic/Evo on the block I can't help but feel sorry that he feel into that fad.

Then I think. You wasted $20K on all of that "shit". I payed $6K for my used bike. Your fully modded rice-mobile can barely top 150 MPH while my 636 can smoke you off the line, and top out at 180ish if I don't eat for a few days and have 93 octane in it.

Like I said, I was going to do that ricer thing, but I used the money on my 636 instead. It was the best investment that I have made so far other than paying off my car.

Well i'm suprised that i'm still on your good side considering your hatred for the Zook! That's good to know You might have been moved back up to being one of my favorites again. And i plan on keeping this one for a while so you dont have to worry about "taking it off my hands!" That is untill i crash it at the track (July 22!!!).. lol. And they apparently "crash like a bag of potato chips".. So I might be in search of another bike in August. hahaha!

Is that 180 kph? Cause without some serious and costly mods there's no way in hell that 636 is gonna see 180mph. I dont care if you went on a hunger strike for a couple months and put 93 octane with a bunch of the NOS fuel additive in it...maybe 165 but not 180.

Now to get back to the subject at hand...

Good luck with the Gsxr. They are great bikes with more available mods than others. Chances are if you want to change something, it has already been done and there's a step by step tutorial online. When you get bored with the 600's power drop in a 750 engine. When the 750 gets to be boring throw in a 1000...the possibilities are endless. I have to agree that the majority of gsxr riders are a bunch of retards, but then again so are most motorcycle riders in general.

You have the sportbikers riding wheelies and weaving in and out of traffic. Then theres the hardley boys drag racing their lawnmowers light to light...I swear they shift 4 times before they get to 40mph. Every once in a while they will line up against a literbike and get stomped...and then you end up with a pissed off 250lb hillbilly pushing their piece of crap as fast as it will go on city streets so they can fly by the sportbiker who let off the throttle a few blocks ago.

I wouldnt consider myself a squid but I am known to cruise around on my 11 in a t shirt, swimming trunks, sandals, and helmet. I know I would be safer in a full riding suit but I'll be damned before I spend 30 minutes putting on my crash suit just to ride 2 miles down the road. Now flame me if you must but it is my decision and I will suffer the consequences if something ever happens.

You won't, you're more likely to crash on the street. I should maybe start looking again now though...

but come on, you'd be so cute with a mohawk on your helmet!

Yes. The only thing aftermarket is the Muzzy's can under the seat. Speedo indicated 184 MPH. I let my buddy ride her when I got it to make a judgement and because he has never ridden a Kawi before. This was before I dropped her flat. Anyway, he is like 170 lbs, currently rides a Hayabusa, and has had pretty much every Yamaha and Gixxer sportbike there is. He still has a '92 Katana 1100. He's been riding for like, 17 years. I had the vid, but, the data on my external is corrupted.
I am 200 lbs. and would never get the bike up to that speed.

Hey man, just nejoy the ride. Thats all I can really say for you on that. I dont mind Gixxers at all, I find that I dont really mind any bike. If you ride for the love of riding, noone should judge you for what it is.

That good part about gixxers, theyre like the camaro of the sportbike world, so many people have or had them that there is just SO many aftermarket and stock parts everywhere. You could probably turn it into just about anything. Give it wings and fly if you feel like it = ) Just be careful, those Gixxers are known to not really like NOS fuel additives.

Now go strap that mohawk to your head and leave the helmet on the shelf = )
