Tire ?'s & Answers
Well, Spring is just around the bend which means that us northerners will be getting the bikes back together and preparing for another season dodging traffic. Unfortunately, it also means that this forum will soon be inundated with countless threads asking about which tire to buy. I know, we've all done it and I admit to it myself...once. But I wanted to try and head off the masses and let you all know that Sport Rider has a new issue out (Apr. 09)with a rather extensive tire test.
They tested 32 tires (16 pair) on a GSXR600 and the new ZX10R on both the street and the track. Two different riders on two different bikes in two different situations each. The reviews are pretty precise and do a good job of explaining the pros and cons of each tire. And the best part, these guys are pros. So, if they both say a tire is quick handling and responsive, not only do you know you can trust them but you also know that they are pushing the tires as harder than you ever will.
I have to say, for $6, it's good information to have so I will sticky this thread here in the General Discussion section so that anyone looking can easily find it. Hopefully, this will save us the frustration of seeing a hundred new "Which tire should I buy threads?" throughout the next few months. And maybe, just maybe, if I get bored enough, I will scan the article and post it up here in this thread. But really, it's $6 if you don't have a subscription. Just pick it up.
Edit: JBear convinced me to go ahead and scan it. So, here you go. Oh, and these pics are fuggin' huge so...

Excellent post. Answered alot of questions. For instance, right now I am running contiSportAttacks and I have no issues with them. The two riders said that they didnt warm up fast enough for them, however they said they have the best wear levels(slowest), so to sum up what that means for me is, I like these tires alot, and knowing that they have the slowest wear levels, means that I am gonna stick with these tires when I need new ones, bc I'll get the most life out of them and still be quite satisfied with the tire.

Good stuff, like you said if they say it is good, then you know they have pushed it to the limits.
I have had good luck with the CTII as I have been wanting an all round tire for those extra miles.

I really want the Pilot Power 2CT's, but am not sure if I should go with the 120/60 or 120/70 since stock is 120/65. I understand the physical differences between the two choices, but I'm unsure about the differences in ride-ability.

Turn in will be quicker with the 70. Most people go up rather than going down.

I'm at around 6500-7000 miles on my M3's and will probably replace them in a month depending on the weather.

I've got over 5,ooo miles on my PP 2CTs and they still look almost new, barely broken in.

Well, I almost never pop wheelies, and I don't do burnouts, ever. That's a huge point. I also keep them filled to spec; many people run their tires 5-10 psi low for some reason I will never understand, and I know they wear much faster when you do that. I also have yet to track day it. So, there are a few factors at work here.
