ACTION ALERT: Los Angeles City Motorcyclists MUST ACT NOW TO STOP Smog Check for Motorcycles before 10 am on FRIDAY MORNING, 9/11/09.
PLEASE re-post this info - FAR AND WIDE. Every riding buddy, every craigslist area should receive this info...could you do that for us? Thanks!
California State Senator Fran Pavley introduced Senate Bill 435, the smog check for motorcycles bill in February of 2009.
It has NOTHING to do with Pol-lution...but instead, Pol-itics.
ABATE of California did what it could to shut the bill down, temporarily, but Senator Pavley and friends are trying a NEW tactic; asking cities and counties to use the resolution process to garner support for the bill - which could cripple the motorcycle industry.
The L.A. City Council is voting on a resolution in SUPPORT of SB 435, smog check for motorcycles, at FRIDAY'S CITY COUNCIL MEETING.
ALL MOTORCYCLISTS MUST ACT NOW!!!
Please ask ALL your riding friends to contact their City Council Member, BE COURTEOUS AND POLITE, and ask that they please, "Vote NO on the smog check for motorcycles resolution, 09-0002-S95."
It is item number 11 on the agenda for the 9/11/09 council meeting.
Motorcyclists also need to appear (on their BEST behavior) to oppose the resolution on Friday at the LA City Council meeting.
JOHN FERRARO COUNCIL CHAMBER
ROOM 340, CITY HALL
200 NORTH SPRING STREET, LOS ANGELES, CA 90012
10 am
By comparison, when the helmet law passed in 1991 - California LOST 248,308 motorcycle registrations almost instantly. Smog check would work the same magic on California's already empty state coffers. Imagine the price of YOUR lost motorcycle registration, multiplied by another 100,000, 200,000, 300,000 bikes.
Lost registrations equal lost REVENUE.
If you don't know your council member, EMAIL ME FOR A LIST of L.A. City Council Members & Contact Numbers:
ITEM NO. (11) - Motion Required
09-0002-S95 COMMUNICATION FROM THE CHIEF LEGISLATIVE ANALYST and RESOLUTION
(GREUEL - ALARCON) relative to the City's position on SB 435 (Pavley), which
would include model-year 2000 and newer motorcycles in the smog check
program. Recommendation for Council action, SUBJECT TO THE CONCURRENCE OF
THE MAYOR: ADOPT the accompanying RESOLUTION to include in the City's
2009-10 State Legislative Program SUPPORT of SB 435 (Pavley), which would
require the Bureau of Automotive Repair to include model-year 2000 and newer
Class III motorcycles in the biennial smog check program. Fiscal Impact
Statement: None submitted by the Chief Legislative Analyst. The City
Administrative Officer has not completed a financial analysis of this
report. Community Impact Statement: None submitted.
(Rules and Government Committee waived consideration of the above matter)

I would go to Cops v Stunters, but if I went for the day, its up at like 5:00a, leave around 5:30-6:00. Get there for the start at 7. Hang out until 4. Ride back up here and then I have to be at work at 7p. Seems like it would end up being a really long day for me, but I figured that the ZX Forums could roll up en mass if anyone wanted to go!
Easy, I thought that shit was done too! I saw the same thing on CL and was actually coming over to post it up.

I've decided that I'm going to probably roll; caged. Probably will be picking up a friend in Laguna Beach. Not going to try to be there at the start, because I don't feel like leaving at 5:30-6:00 in the morning. may head out around 9-9:30.

what's up guys... Funny story. So my girlfriend and I were putting new exhaust on one of my atv's and she moved my zx and her gsxr out of the way so we had more room to work. The sec she sets my bike on the kickstand and walks away... BOOM! bike over!! Lost my upper fairing to the garage wall. haha. Thing pretty much shattered. But oh well, She is going to replace it. Back to weekends off so see you all soon!

Yes, the bike fell on the left side. Hit the wall and I think that is what took out the upper.

So Jennifer got a gixxer? Cool. Would be nice to see both of you rollin'; except no more of her bomb pics & movies.
...good to see that your off on weekends too.
BTW, I was in your neck of the woods yesterday. A friend lives off of Alicia Parkway.

Installed my ignition advancer & Watsen Design LED Flush mount signals. Also dialed in my rearsets.
Just waiting on the headers to come back from being ceramic coated so I can install my Two Bros. Then all I have is to get the rear tire put on, swap out the chain & front sprocket, install the rear brake, bleed both front & rear brakes & install new rear view mirrors.
I'm going to take it to my local Kawi shop to install my jet kit.

Just heard that my header is coming back tomorrow, so that means I should be able to get everything put back together on Saturday; hopefully.

I just did my smog emissions removal and I have to say the bike runs a lot smoother.
Ray let me know if you want to do it on your bike. I remember you talking about it.

I assume this is cool to do as long as there is no law implemented in Cali to where bikes need to be smogged?
