Pulled a bonehead move today

Changed my oil this morning before heading to work and was in a hurry after it taking a bit of coaxing to get the filter off. Threw everything back together looked it over and hit the road. About 10 miles down the road my oil light comes on so I pull over and kill the engine. The oil plug had vibrated loose and fallen out so I had left a trail of oil down the road and coated the entire rear half of the bike. Killed the engine before any damage was done but I'm fearing that I'll have to replace the rear tire(which is only a few months old) because of the oil sitting on there for the whole day as I had no time to clean it once the bike and I got dropped off back at the house after our $200 tow ride. After about 10 years of successful mechanics on both cars and bikes today was a doozie. I'm not telling anyone that knows me personally because I'll never hear the end of it...

Ouch! Thank God it didn't slide out on you, running the rear through that oil slick.

Thought that post would entertain some.

Going to get the new plug, and tire today. Hopefully all goes smoothly. New to the area and don't really know anyone yet so there was no calling a friend with a pickup. The first thought that crossed my mind as I was calling for a tow was "man I'm screwed down here. The tow company is going slam me with the bill" oh well live and learn. Can't wait to fire her up and make sure there's no engine damage!

I pulled one almost as dumb as that, so don't feel pregnant. I changed oil, started the motor and let it circulate, then shut it off to check the sight glass for final top-up. After I added a few more drams, I took off for the car wash to do a pre-trip cleanup, and FORGOT TO PUT THE CAP BACK ON! By the time I figured out what had taken place, the whole right side of the bike, not to mention my boot and pantleg were drenched in brand-spankin' new 8-buck-a-quart Mobil1 4T. Luckily, the wife was nearby busy spending me into the poorhouse, so I called her and had her meet me at the carwash with a can of degreaser. Only lost a pint or so of oil, but it took several washings to get the oil off my jeans.
