What's a good summer weight jacket?
What's a good, breathable, jacket for the hot humid summers of the south east USA?
I really like the way the Icon Retro Daytona looks but it's probably not to comfortable in the heat.

Yeah, I've actually been looking for a summer Jacket too, it gets too hot here in Florida! I've been riding with my black leather Joe Rocket, and man, whenever I'd stop it would get pretty hot, pretty quick!

I have a First Gear textile jacket for the summer. The inner liner comes out. Plenty of ventilation while moving but still gets hot when you stop and it's 100*. When it gets over 100, forget it.

90-100+ degrees here at the moment (Wyoming) I use a Mesh Joe Rocket , great when mobile but even the mesh gets warm when stationary, also use an Icon vest that is pretty good too.

The Daytona Retro jackets are pretty sweet but I will tell you that if you are looking for a warm weather jacket, leather is probably not the way to go. I have a few Icon jackets and they are all great quality but if the temps are gonna be above 80, the Daytona stays at home. I picked up one of the Team Merc Stage 3 jackets (the white one) this year and couldn't be happier. Feels like you're wearing a long sleeve t-shirt, flows good air, and has the same armor that my leather jackets have. Granted, leather does offer more protection but I feel pretty confident with the Stage 3. It is still a bit hot sitting in traffic but what jacket isn't?

I have a Joe Rocket mesh jacket with a waterproof zip out liner, with the liner out it's like riding in a T shirt. Full spinal protection, shoulder and elbow pads, but all mesh. I love it. Doesn't do jack for warmth on a cool morning, but when it gets hot out it's fantastic.
I lucked out because it was the only jacket on the wall that fit me, I'm a medium body with long arms and there just isn't much out there for a medium tall. I had a med/tall Tourmaster Intake on back order for two months, and when I found out it was going to be at least another month I just bought this. $150, looks good, real comfortable, and fit off the rack as a medium. Perfect. When it's cold out I just layer up underneath and it's great.

Like this?
That doesn't look to bad...
I took a look at the Icon Team Merc Stage 2 and like it as well:
I want to shy away from anything with white in it as it usually gets dingy looking after awhile.

I wear the joe rocket from the photo above, in all black. It's pretty good for summer. Like was mentioned before, all jackets are hot at some point. Especially in traffic. But that Joe Rocket feels good and in a crash, it held up for me. I have a full leather Teknic for cold weather. Definitely, hot in the summer.

Just like helmets, make sure you try the jacket on first. I wouldn't buy one on the internet. We tried on sooo many before we found the right one. My mesh jacket is actually a different size than my leather.

No, like this, only all black. IIRC, the model is Phoenix. It kicks ass, it's so light and breathes so well it's literally like not even having a jacket on. I've been riding in just a t- shirt for the last two months, and it really doesn't feel any hotter.

I was a little worried about getting a white jacket but I figured "why buy a black jacket to stay cool" and got the white anyway. And then, after it got pretty dirty I threw it in the washer (without the armor of course) at low agitation, then let it air dry and it looks brand spankin' new. White as the day I bought it.

This is what I ended up going with:
None of the shops around here heard of Scorpion, so maybe I'll stick out of the Icon crowd.
Also ordered a set of Michelin Power 2CT tires. The tires that are on the bike now I had put on in '98 (with only about 5K miles on them) but being over 6 years old they're dangerous.
I tried to order some S-MX2 Alpinestar Boots but they're on back order so I'll to find them someplace else...

Those tires KICK ASS. I've got about 500 miles on mine; it was like installing new brakes, and knee dragging is just as stable as upright. 14 degree lean angles FTW!

Joe Rocket is good. I agree with 185EZ that you need to try the jacket first to make sure it is the right fit for you.
