License Without MSF?

I tested for my M class permit and now I have the J restriction
(I'm 20 yrs old). I'm in Austin, TX btw..

I can't even count how many times
I have seen people suggesting taking the MSF course as though
it weren't mandatory to get your license.

So anyhow, now I've got a 2006 Ninja 250R that I can't ride
legally. Can I get a real license without taking the msf course?
Does DPS offer any kind of motorcycle road test? Do cops really
care about the J restriction?

I've always intended on going through MSF, I only ask because all
local MSF courses are booked until October and I need to ride around for transportation.

Can't help with TX laws but,
I suggest trading in the 250r for a zx14 and then follow instructions in the thread "who doesn't pull over"

Hahah, nah that's insane. I can't believe so many people don't pull over to cops.
Just got a $200 ticket for doing 65 in a 55 yesterday *le sigh*

That hardly even qualifies as speeding!

i like the way this guy thinks....

just do msf, i did it and its a great way to get your mc license and even though u are there with some people that shouldnt be on a bike, you do learn a lot, get cheaper insurance, get to beat on a couple of kawi eliminators for a couple of days and its accually kinda fun

I'd say just go ahead and take MSF, it wasn't too bad, and I actually learned a few things, besides the group I took it with wasn't as bad as I expected, they were actually pretty cool for a group of old guys!

Just take the MSF. It will do more good than harm for you. You'll get to learn a lot for sure.

In the same boat as the OP, To a degree, im 17. Recently got my Ninja ZX7 Which has been a project. But Its nearing completion.

I waited till i was 17 before I got my Drivers Permit. Which I will have my Licenses Dec 12th.

Anyone have any idea if i can get my M/C Permit While under a Vehicular Permit phase?
