Best way to break in tires
Just got some power pilot 2ct's put on the bike and was curious if there are any tricks-of-the-trade to breaking them in?? I had heard scrubbing them good with a scotch brite pad will speed up the break in process...I'm just an impatient person!!

Hey, I just bought a pair of those for my ZX10, but didn't have the money to put them on yet. Hopefully next week... tell me how they are! I heard 100 miles of normal riding is the break in time.

Best way to scrub in new tires is by riding; you will want to progressively lean through the corners, no major leaning at first. As you get more comfortable, lean more. Another key is too make sure the tires are warm before any crazy knee draggin. You never heard any of this from me though. :)

a fella that does nothing but tyres here in brisbane australia scrubs them dowb with a little petrol or thinners. i wouldnt have thought this was great but he is constantly busy with customers, and is so knowledgeable(that dont look right?) on the manufacturing etc etc of tyres. i dont really think petrol is good for rubber...der, but its only a little on a rag and it does get most of the waxy coating off, then you could scrub with the scotchbrite and then scrub them in over the 100km/m priod. the petrol isnt on the rubber long enough to cause ANY damage. just seeing how many customers he has any day of the week is proof enough to me that he knows his black round sticky stuff. im sure some here are gonna scream how wrong that is, but hes done tyres street and track and raced for almost 3 decades.

a good round burnt donut ought to do the trick...don't lean hard for the first 30-40 miles.

I put one set of tires on my Cobra that had some nasty, waxy looking residue on the sidewalls that I couldn't get off with ANYTHING. My local tire guy (40 years in the business, same location) told me to try a little gasoline on a rag, just don't let any of it soak in. Wipe on, wipe off, wash down. No problems. Granted, that wasn't the treads, but I doubt there'd be much difference...?

Hotdemongel. Well living out of Brisbane they're convienient. I just lob up and they fit new ones with not enough time to grab a coffee at the BP. Price seemed ok. Friend of mine used to go to Mick. Think he's shifted to Boonah.

Any new tires I have ever bought over the years , I run them in by just riding some miles with them, I have know clue to the technical side of breaking tires in.

Technically, it goes something like this:
1. Don't lean
2. Lean a little
3. Lean a little more
4. Lean a lot more
5. Drag knees

man I'd just be careful with throttle twists in corners, that's the grayest area of all with new tires, almost had a wreck on my old SV650s in that very way, was taking a corner slower than usual after I had just gotten a new rear tire, leaned in less then I usually do and all, but I gave it a little to much juice about half way through and I came yay l--l close to having a serious wreck, back tire swung out like I was doing a drift, somehow managed to keep it together though, and keep in mind that was on a bike with about 1/2 the power.. keep that throttle hand REALLY steady in those bends for the first 100 miles.

I just go out and ride usually.
my buddy scrubbs his new tires in 5 minutes by making small figure eights in an open parking lot. You can touch knee down at slow speeds of you really slide off the seat.
