Dropped the bike today
Hi all , well here's the deal .
Geared up , backed the bike out of the garage and the rear wheel was on the grass and front wheel was on the crushed rock driveway , which was higher than the grass by 2 inches . Started the bike , warmed it up then engaged 1st , let out the clutch , got rolling forward and turned right to go down the slightly declining driveway . The bike turned right and rolled over immediately . I tried to hold it up but 580 pounds of it had other ideas !
I jumped off the bike and it was laying on it's side running on the crushed rock . I shut it off then tried to lift it back up but no luck and pulled a muscle in my back when I attempted it . Nice .
With help , I got the bike upright and the right turn signal lense was broken , I cracked a plastic fairing and had numerous stone scrape marks on the side of the fairings .
The tank and all the fairings are going into the paintshop this winter for some 2008 Kawasaki green .
Guys and gals , PLEASE learn from my mistake and watch out when your off the road on rough terrain . Sportbikes don't handle very well in the rough stuff and when 580 pounds of bike wants to go , don't be a hero .
Update : I checked the battery to see if any acid spilled out when the bike was down and I was lucky that nothing spilled . In retrospect , my mistake was trying to get the bike moving up onto the driveway and turning right at the same time at a very slow speed . I think it was a combination of poor clutch control and not enough forward movement , plus , turning too sharply . Once the bike started going over , I couldn't stop it's momentum due to it's weight and then I had to bail .

Thanks and I appreciate your condolances .
Shit happens and it's a lesson learned for sure . It caught me completely off guard .
I'm going to repair the cracks as good as new and then update whole color scheme to 2008 Kaw green with black striping . I'll post before and after pics when it's finished .
Cheers .

a smart rider wouldn't even think about the possibility of taking a street bike off road. I don't care if he's been riding 100+ years, stunted 50+ years and won all of the moto GP races in the world, him doing that (without a helmet no less!!!) puts him lower than a squid

can someone say dumbass? Ducky hit the nail on the head with that one. i have ridden quads on trails like that and dirt bikes. that is no place for a street bike...but maybe that is where a GSXR belongs....that guy was "special"....he rode the short bus. That guy should do this repeatedly

When the horse throws you ...you get right back on !
Thanks guys ,
After I checked the battery for leakage , I took the bike for a 2 hr. ride to build my confidence level back up and put this incident behind me .
The tank and fairings are going to Ottawa valley custom paint this fall !

Scabbs, he said he was on rough gravel, ur friend in those pics is on a packed dirt trail, i would say that trail sounds like better terrain than his driveway.

Agreed. Many of us have driveways in far worse condition than that trail appears to be, does that mean we shouldn't ride? (not that I would venture down it on my bike myself, or use that to justify bombing off into the woods) Also:

wow, 580lbs did they really way that much, i got a zx 10r and you could strap by little bros pit bike on it fill the both with oil and fuel and i think i'd still come up light, maybe throw on my brother too. 20 years sure has done a lot and hey just cause its gots a few scratches and nicks doesnt make it slower, less comfortable, worse mpgs, or less fun to ride

Joe88ZX10.... Sorry to hear brother, always sucks when a bike gets dropped , no matter how, still sounds like you escaped unscathed, so that is the good side to this.

I've been repairing the cracks with Permatex 5 min. Plastic weld epoxy .
It sets up very quickly and hardens like cement ( permanent strength of 3500 psi ! ) . Great for ABS fairing repair .

Steering response
Yup , 580 lbs but you sure don't feel it when your riding . One thing I noticed at low speed is that you have to be very careful about steering input as the bike will turn a hell of a lot quicker than at higher speeds . Does this have to do with the steering rake angle being pulled in tighter than cruiser bikes , ( or is it because of the Pirelli Strada tires ! ) ?
I'm interested in finding out how your bikes handle at slow speeds , lets say 10-20 mph .
