Newbie lookin for helmet advice
Howdy all, i'm new here to the forum, purchased my first motorcyle a month ago. She's a 2008 ZX6, unfortunately the only mods to her are reflective wheel tape, but many more to come (first of which is a fender eliminator to get rid of that massive "thing" on the back). Anyways my first endeavour for advice from you fine folks is what is the best helmet as far as wind noise, weight, and comfort? Thanks in advance!!

It really depends on what you are looking for. The most important thing is that the helmet fits properly. I've got a big head and the Shoei's and Arai's are too tight on my magnificent melon. But I here they are really light and quiet but they are also really expensive. A lot of people will tell you the you get what you pay for so go pricey, but that is not entirely true. I would not recommend the $70 no name helmet but I also see no point in spending $700 on a name brand helmet. I have always ridden with the high-end HJC's. They fit me well and only run about $300. I like them but other people complain about them being noisy.
So really, first thing, go find out which helmets fit properly then work from there. Find some brands and designs that you like and then ask for opinions. That will really help to focus the advice from other forum members. I hope that helps point you in the right direction. By the way, welcome to the forums.

I have a HJC FS-10 its got the sun visor built in, and since i wear glasses most the time it was a no brain-er, it wasn't that expensive don't remember how much but it wasn't over 200, I don't notice a lot of noise and it fits me well thats what counts

Before u do anything...read the link below entirely. I own 2 zox helmets...spent $100 on 1 that was rubbarone and happened to be snell as well.(not boasting about the snell) it is small, flat black, and I get complimented on it all the time. The other is a white 1 and cost me $70. Do ur research b4 u listen to the opinion of uninformed individuals..(not referring to anyone here, just in general). The problem u get with a smaller helmet..is harder more compressed foam which means in the event of an accident u have a higher chance of head injury even in a minor accident bcuz ur helmet is so hard inside. The better helmet would be softer inside and act like a sponge where ur head would cause the compression of the foam..thereby absorbing impact. The problem with that is u get a bigger helmet...not necessarily heavier. Its like 100lbs of bricks or 100lbs of feather..which is heavier? But the feather would be way bulkier. Lol. The snell ratings are excessive and testing is unrealistic. The only benefit is the helmets are designed to withstand impact in the same spot twice at speeds over 200 mph...lol. But u will end up with brain damage. Lol. At the end of the day...al u can do is research and make ur own educated decision. U will notice that u get a slew of different opinions from different people. Although the article is lengthy..I hope everyone reads it. I'd rather trust in the word of scientists and european specialists than a guy behind a counter trying to make a buck.

Shoei RF-1000
EXCELLENT choice and I also have one . It's light , has a great visor system , handles airflow very well and the designs and paintwork are tops .

There used to be a Bell ad that read: If you have a $5 head buy a $5 helmet
Now my Joe HJC...err...Rocket helmet is not the end all be all but it is light as hell (carbon fibre). And yeah I got a noggin too and it fits just fine. I have had problems with Arai and AGV. Had a Shoei previously

voted number 1/ best helmet of 2007 by Web Bike World....under $150.
If ur easily moved by slogans and advertisements...u need to stop by my business...lol. I could use a laydown/ easy sale. Modern technological advances people! Expensive doesn't mean better. I guess in a world that's run by the dollar...u need consumers to keep it going and to make those with the other mentality..(the business sense)...richer. While u own 1 or 2 helmets...I own 10. I street ride every day so its a part of my daily routine to incorporate my helmets into my wardrobe. I hate to wear my red jacket with a black and orange helmet...lol. This was a good thread.

Don't get me wrong..its all a matter of preference and choice. But to say that this is better bcuz it costs more....that's a bit on the dark side. Do ur homework people...a smaller harder helmet is more likely to cause injury. At the end of the day..as long as ur happy....I guess its all that matters. Steeltanto...congrats man..enjoy and ride safe. There's a very interesting thread about avoiding accidents up there...check it out. Peace!

Nah holmes...I made it clear that I do it with my jackets but I understand..some people read but only absorb what they want to and some can't resist an opportunity to try and look cool or get some attention. Don't hate son! 5 jackets....10 helmets...and 50 pairs of sneakers & boots. I gotta stay fresh. I'm the guy with all the pretty faces and nice asses on the back of my bike (1100 cc's by the way) while most others are rollin with a bunch of swinging di¢ks lookin for chicks and going nowhere fast. Lol! You've just been issued a speeding ticket....slow done son.
Sorry I couldn't resist...poppa always told me to defend myself.

did you buy it from Cycle Gear??
if you did, good choice.
that RF1000 is one of the lightest and quietest snell aproved helmets out there.
fiberglass composite shell, venting is nice, and the shields and padding is very user friendly.
i personaly rock the RX7 corsair. about the same as the X11. both are pretty loud but the venting is top notch.
nice buy bud, you wont be disappointed.

I had an Arai that I spent about 500 on and it was great but now I have a KBC that I spent 200 on and I like it a lot better. Best thing to do is to just go try helmets and see which one feels the best and works for you.
