Question 1st Time Out

Need help or advice, however you want to look at it.

Im planning on taking my 05 636 out to the strip for some 1/8 mi. dragging.

Ive never dragged a bike, never launched a bike hard, and I dont usually get up over 10k or so. Just hopin you guys could give me every little bit of possible advice you can so I can make the most out of this experience.

(Burnout advice too please, havent ever done that)

Thanks guys!

Well, if you don't get up over 10k there, you won't go very fast... that's where all your power is. Burnout is pretty straightforward: both feet on the ground, rev it up, hold the front brake, rock your weight forward and dump the clutch. That's all I've got in my coffee deprived state, sorry.

Ok, I guess that covers the burnout then.

Now for the launch and what to expect going down the strip. Shifting shouldnt be too big of a deal, but advice helps anyways. Clutchless is the way to go, right? Should I worry about the front up coming up through the rev range?

Like I said, any advice would be very appreciated.

Thanks for the input JBear! Much appreciated!!!

Just because you've never done it before, I would start out launching around 6000rpm and slipping the clutch. Work your way up from there as you get more comfortable with launching. If you run it to redline then the front end will probably get pretty light in 1st and 2nd depending on how you throttle it. Launch with both feet on the ground and lean forward onto the tank. Wait until you're stabilized and running before worrying about putting your feet up on the pegs. Full throttle upshifts can be hard on the tranny but will be the best for keeping speed. Take your time. Don't feel like you have to go balls to the wall on your first run. Odds are, you'll get a 4+ runs, so take it easy on the first couple to get used to the sensation. Good luck and ride safe.

He could strap the nose down too, to make it easier. Might get a faster time too.

give er' hell. if you dont feel comfortable with clutchless shifting, clutching it will lose you some time on 1/4 mile but not enough to notice on a new racer.

like shifty said dont worrie about your feet till you are stabilized. slip the clutch and rider her like a cheap hooker. have fun

Yeah, would he even be out of 2nd by the end of the 1/8? Not really much shifting to worry about, methinks. I know the six's are geared a lot lower, but my ten doesn't even get out of 1st in the 1/8.

I have -1 in the front too. I was thinking I would either be topping out 2nd or middle of 3rd or so.

Oh, yeah that'll make a difference. Still, it's a short track.
Hopefully you'll be topping second, that would give you your best time.

So it turns out Im runnin to the top of 3rd gear on 1/8 mi. Im thinkin I might need an air filter soon though, but thats another story.

Anyways, I had a WHOLE LOT OF FUN!!!! It was pretty awesome, enjoyed the whole night. I actually packed it quite a few runs.

Best ET was 8.098 @ 97.40 mph. RT for the run was 0.981 with a 2.270 60ft.
I know its not super impressive or anything, but I had a lot of fun with it.
