if you took the same person and put him on 2 different bikes, he should be going faster on the newer model. Every generation, even every new year model should be a huge upgrade from the previous.

Um... no. '07-'08 10R? Yes, big difference. Huge. '05-'06 10R? New face, same old bones. Performance is virtually the same; in fact, the older one is actually geared more aggressively and has a lighter, less restrictive exhaust. The only performance improvement from the first to second generation 10R is a (marginally) better handling suspension from the factory.

even marginal changes are huge in my book, every new year model is just that, newer than the last, better (depending on who you ask). thanks

That's fine, but your book also just said that every new model is faster than the old one, and it simply isn't true... and that is what I was responding to. How easily pleased you are personally by the minutest of changes is another subject entirely.

LOL I know a few modifications to the 06 10R that I was dissapointed with over the 04 10R, Not to mention I reach back to stretch was burned few times on my loaner bike.

I didn't have it long enough to know if it was truely better bike or not, was not fan of undertail exhaust though, much much more happy with side mounted.

I like the balance of the undertail, but I'm not sure I'd want to live with it.

Them motors are vertually identical, But the 06 is more retricted. Because emmissions became tougher in 06. Pluse the 06 has 20 extra lbs. And is less airodinamic the 06 is desinged to push air away from the rider the 05 is made to cut though the wind which means less drag.

It almost seems like a brand new oxymoron is trying to evolve from your post. Marginally huge, doesn't quite have the same ring to it as say....jumbo shrimp though does it?
Saying changes/improvements are marginal presupposes that they are in fact not huge.

I disagree. It's a matter of perspective. On paper, where anyone can look at a spec sheet and see a marginal change of say, a .3 raise in compression, most people will look at that and say with sarcasm "wow, they raised it from 12.5 to 12.8, BIG deal". It's a marginal change, even most riders would think so. And, in a 4,000lb. hemi Charger they would be right, if that's as deep as they looked. To the educated motorcyclist however, the change it makes in power to weight ratio on a 400lb supersport is huge. It's all relative, you just have to look at both sides of the coin at once to see it.
