Hi guys.
Greetings from the United Kingdom. I grew up in East London, South Africa, although I have been living in the UK since 1997.
My first Kawasaki was something special: the race-homologation 1992 ZXR750R (K model).
What a rider’s bike! Flat-slide carbs, alloy tank, close ratio gearbox, single seat tailpiece, etc. An uncompromising, in-your-face superbike. Loved the ‘hoover’ pipes too!
It was only used on roads; obviously a bugger in the cities but damn fun on open roads!
Unfortunately I had to sell her when I moved to the UK, but the appeal of limited race-homologated Kawas lingered…
In 2007, a shop in Formby, north of Liverpool, somehow got hold of a brand new 2004 ZX-6RR and had imported it. Green chain, black frame. What also appealed was all the internal changes as a result of the previous 2003 Supersport season… I went to check it out to ensure that it was indeed a new bike. The rest, as they say, is history.
Believe it or not, I’m still running it in! I’m usually riding my ZZR1200 on the weekends and holidays, as this is far more comfortable for my supportive and wonderful better half. I’ve kept the ‘RR’ stock-standard, a kind of mechanical jewel that I want to keep as pristine/concours for as long as possible.
I’m know that I'm not kinda doing it justice from a rider's point of view, as I haven't really used the bike as such and it demands to be ridden hard (once run in, of course!); I need to ride it like a did the ZXR (fast-but-safe) when I finally do get past the 1000-mile mark!
Anywayz, glad to be aboard here in the ZX Forums!
