Newby from KS! Looking for does and don'ts with a ZX10

Hey all, I just purchased an 05 ZX10R. The first time I saw the bike, I fell in love with it!! That green paint is soooo sweet!!! I'm looking for some pointers on riding this beast, so if anyone has any please fill me in. I must say I am kinda new to the sportbike scene, and I am scared to death of laying the bike down. I would die if I messed up that bike and the green paint!!

Frame Sliders.

I actually picked up a slider kit at my local dealer which has frame, handle bar and swing arm sliders. About $200 installed. It won't keep the fairings from cosmetic damage, but will keep them from cracking up.

If you imagine yourself invisible it'll help you with the cage threat , dont try to show off , if some people are faster than you stay within your comfort zone dont push it trying to keep up

I like ur style hillbilly!!! Yeah I'm new, no I'm not gonna be dumb on that bike. That's a lot of power at the twist of the throttle and I race cars so I know what fast is, but this is a totally different beast on two wheels. I just want to ride and have fun!! I think the day I get comfortable and cocky is the day I sell the bike, cause that means shit is gonna hit the fan!! We are taking a road trip here in two weeks down south, if we come by ur way hillbilly, I'd love to ride with ya!!

Careful on the throttle, practice rolling up to a fast speed, not goosing it from the get go. Doing so you should have no problem keeping the front end on the ground, which on a 10 is quite easy to do.

I've heard that keeping the front end down is quite a shore for the 10!! I'm gonna take the bike out and like you said Jay, just role into the throttle and avoid the ole goose!! Thanks for the tip, I never thought of it.

1st gear....run the rpms up to about 9 grand....off the throttle suddenly....forks dive...on the way back up {the forks} hard in the throttle....it will power wheelie...keep your foot over the back brake...tapping it will bring the front back down if it goes too high for you...

disclaimer: if you blow this and eat it hard your responsible not me

I wouldn't have opted for a 10 for my first bike (even though I almost did it as well...but being female...there is more of a connection between my brain and my right hand (throttle hand) I love my 636...I rode my boyfriends 10 last night and realized....my bike is way more comfortable!!!! He knows it too...and he loves the way he can just throw my bike around, it's so nimble and handles the curves (that we don't have in Florida) like a dream!!!

yes, that 10 is good for pulling a power wheelie, especially the 04's and 05's!!!

I kind of regret getting a 10, but I weigh about 240lbs and I thought a 636 would eventually be too small for me after a season...just my thoughts, but if someone else could shine more of an educated thought on this matter than me, let me know. Biker Chic, what was your boyfriends thoughts when he first got his 10? I figured since I am a little bigger, a 636 wouldn't pull my FatA** around as easy..LOL

one big one, DO NOT ride in a bad mood! real big thing, youre bike will feel this and you make have a close brush with death. it sounds weird but trust me, i know from experience. also if you scare the shit out of yourself pull over, regain your bearing, clear your mind of it, then start to ride again. if not, you will keep thinking about it and it will F--- you up for the rest of the ride.
