Hello ZX Forums,
I am new the the ZX family--- just purchased a 1995 ZX11 D3. I previously had a GSXR-750 and Ducati 916. This ZX11 is an awesome bike--thanks to the entire forum for supplying good material on the engine/components.
I am really enjoying the bike, though I do have a couple questions:
1. the engine was rebuilt due to a thrown #3 rod. It has a new block, pistons, cylinderhead, fuel and water pump, new seals, good chain/sprockets, and cast iron brakes / 6 piston nissin calipers (I don't know what this is).
The mechanic told me the bike is solid mechanically, but he said a previous shop drilled holes in the carbs to improve airflow / hp. The result is an idle that goes up/down--up/down like the waves of an ocean. Should I be concerned about this? If the idle goes too low, does that mean oil is not circulating well? It usually idles at 1000 rpm, but at a stoplight the other night it was swinging from 1700 down to 400. at the low point, I would blip the throtte. Does this make any of the heavyweights/experts here nervous?
should I be looking for a new set of carbs? Mechanically, I am a real idiot, but willing to learn.
2. The inside of the gas tank appears to have small diamond-like indentations, like speckles all over. does not look like rust, but I don't know what I'm looking at.
The bike has dual carbon fiber Vance&Hines exhaust and a chameleon paint job (black/purple/copper/blue). Cool paint job, but touching up any nicks is impossible (I think).
I need to winterize this pretty quickly, and will poke around the site to learn how to do this Right. I hope to ride this baby for a long time.
Thanks to any expert advice in advance, and Happy Riding~!
