Just a guess, but you may have a fuel pump problem. There may an inconsistent malfunction of the pump, there may be a clog in the lines, shit in the tank, or something. My reason in thinking that is when you turn the key off and back on, the fuel pump primes and if you are out riding around for a while and it is acting up then maybe something is blocking or stalling the flow of fuel. Just a guess but I am no mechanic. I would suggest riding it around your neighborhood until it acts up again and then push the thing home without turning it off and trying to pull the codes if that is possible. Good luck.
