Oil leak from shift rod

Cross posting from Mechanical Forum (no responses).....................

Hi Everyone,
Long time ZX rider but new to this site. Need your help, my search terms couldn't locate a good thread to my problem. My antique 94 ZX-7 developed the all too common oil leak along the left side shift rod when the engine is running. I removed the casing cover that the shift rod and the clutch hydraulics attach to but can't access the seal. Two local dealers have conflicting info. One says I need to remove the motor and split the case open for a $5 seal. Another says I can remove the circlip to get it out. I don't see such a clip. Anyone with an old ZX7 that might know who's right? Also, is there a link to a good site or write up to do this (if it doesn't require removal of the engine).

Thanx in advance for any help. Off I go to do more searches on the site. If someone can describe the process, I would be very grateful if they don't mind taking the time to write it up. Seems like it could be a sticky since it's quite common.

Ride Safe!!!
