I am not sure about just flipping the stock linkage on the 08 because I have yet to see one in person. But I will tell you that you don't have to get aftermarket rearsets to make it gp shift. You can get an aftermarket shift lever that mounts directly to the gear change pivot shaft. You just get rid of the stock linkage and install the lever and you're done. I have seen them as cheap as $20. Good luck.
