well... it's a tough call.... but if insurance is the bargaining chip?... why not just buy a four year old 600?..
look... if you want the 10r.. get it.. but it's A LOT of bike. i know a lot people would buy it anyway.. i did the same thing in 1986... bought the gsxr 750... had fun too.. but then i road a bike with less power.. and had more fun.. i was finally able to use the whole powerband...
that said.. even the 600's are gonna be too fast for you.. but that doesn't mean you won't have fun on it... just don't put yourself in a situation where you have fear of the power... try an older 600... do some track days.... build the confidence up...
you'll have more fun chasing down the bigger bikes in the turns... i do...
