my old 92 750 was that way. i jetted it, rejetted it, tore the carbs apart on a couple of occations, and never fixed it. brought it to a good shop for them to figure it out. they did some research to find out there was nothing you could do about the dead spot around 3000 rpm. i have no clue why but there was no fixing it.
