I own a 2001 ZX12R. I have found that it HATES low rpms. I try to never let it go below 4000. At low rpms it chugs and the throttle response is quite sluggish. It also bogs off the line a little if I let out the clutch to abruptly. As far as I've been able to learn, this is a side effect of the fuel injection system. When the newer model 12 came out this is one of the refinements they worked on. My bike has some minor mods and made 165 HP on the dyno. My only solution has been to adjust my riding style. Off the line it likes a little clutch slide and enough throttle to get it up over 4000 rpms quickly. Once rolling I keep the motor spinning, keeping it over 4000 the whole time. I've also noticed the big surge above 7000. When I ride like this everything seems to work great. The main side effect is fuel consumption. ZX12 eats noticeably more fuel than my friends Busa.
