well it does sound like an ignition problem, but not necasarily your rev limiter. Is the bike giving any codes? maybe some sort of glitch in the cdi. do you know anyone with the same bike? if you do, try switching the cdi and see what happens. check your plugs, wires, coils, etc. It could be mechanical too.valve adjustment, weak springs causing valve float, flat cam. Start with the basics first. Ignition, fuel, and compression...
