Why put them in to begin with?

I agree Kawasaki has sped up the opening of them in the 08 model, but I figure why even have them in there? They will never open as fast as they do when they are not in there anymore. You'll here different stories from different people as to the results of this. I can't give you an honest seat of the pants answer because I did a few other things at the same time. I have seen others dyno charts though that show a much smoother torque curve, with additional ft/lbs particularly in the sub 4000rpm range.
