This is common for these bikes. The plastics have insullation on the inside of them to reduce heat and chance of melting. What this does is it forces the heat towards your body and the frame.
As for where the temp gauge is running at, that is normal. Once the temp gets to a certain temp the sensor turns on your fan.
If you are uncomfortable with the heat you could always remove the cowlings and run your bike naked to reduce the heat.
