My '01 has 34,000 miles on it, and the clutch is still fine (knock on wood). I've been told my knowledgable people the clutch on these bikes is good up until around 50K. The "clunk" noise in first is normal unless it's so out of whack your bike stalls. My buddy's 6R does the same thing, nice "THUNK" noise when dropping it in first.

As for it pulling forward when you let off the brake, how hard? I mean, if you sit on it with both feet on the ground, can you keep it from moving? If you can't, then I think you have a problem.

For example, when my rear wheel is up on a stand, it's in neutral, and I rev. it, the rear wheel does start to turn, and it will even start turning pretty quick. However, I can easily stop it with my hands, so while there's a bit of grabbing, it's pretty insignificant, and most certainly does not warrant a clutch change at this time.
