Fly removal

In anticipation of summer, I know that fly removal is a job I am going to have to do. Has anyone got a really good way of doing this? There's all this talk of taking the tank off or not and having the tank empty and using a JIZ screwdriver. Can't I just use a bucket full of hot soapy water to remove the squashed little bodies from the screen?
