Unhappy ZX6R wouldn't go into neutral after it was dropped on it's left side!

Tonight I must of landed in a oil or deisel spill cause as soon as planted my feet my left foot slid out and my bike went on it's side, I tried to stop it as much as possible so it went down slowly. When I picked the bike back up i noticed that the netural light wasn't coming on! I tried turning the bike back on and off and still nothing. I was able to shift up and down just like normal but no shift like. I rolled the bike back and forth and it was obviously in gear. The weird thing is after rocking it back and forth a few times and repeatedly shifting up and down it finally went into neutral and the light came on to indicate it. After this i continued driving and everything was back to normal. I don't know if this makes a difference but i just did a oil change earlier today. What could of caused this? If anyone can help that would be great, thanks!
