I would concentrate on the electricals. If your lights act normal, it's probably not battery or regulator but I would get a pocket volt meter to carry and check battery voltage anyway. But I would try bypassing the side stand lockout switch or the clutch switch since the most common issue is with the bike thinking it's stand is down. If the switches are going bad, they can act up intermittantly.
